Scott Adams, creator of the newspaper cartoon Dilbert, designed the ultimate virtual house: an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly structure that features a "quiet room" (a soundproof room that doubles as a "scream room"), two dishwashers* (one for dirty dishes, the other for clean ones), a home theater and a mow-free artificial turf lawn.
What’s in your ultimate house? In mine:
- *"clean" and "dirty" magnets for my two dishwashers (to avoid confusion as to which one contains the clean dishes)
- Along those lines, how about two washing machines, one for lights and the other for darks? And laundry chutes that empty directly into the open machines?
- a home office with a walk-in office supply closet
- security cameras and an intercom system hooked up to my computer network
- drapes or blinds that open and close via programmable remote control
- an emergency preparedness pantry
- a trick bookcase that opens into a secret room
- stained glass windows
- an exercise room with the best equipment
- an indoor trampoline in a room with a vaulted ceiling and skylight
- a dance studio so I won’t have to dance in public
- a meadow lawn with low-maintenance native grasses
- and, of course, a tree house
